Giggles and Toes

Last Wednesday Matt and I were in Lyla's room just before it was time for her to go to bed and we were playing and she giggled for the first time. It was a full belly laugh and it just kept going. It was the best sound in the world. However, much to our dismay, that is the ONLY time she has laughed for us. She hasn't even shown signs of wanting to since then. This isn't because we haven't been trying. Let me tell you, Matt and I have cracked ourselves up trying to get this girl to laugh but she is an iron gate. I don't give up easily though- we just have to figure out what she finds funny.

She has discovered that she has toes and she is now trying to pull them to her mouth to eat them. She is almost there- maybe another day or so and she will have a new toy to chew on. Hilarious to watch her struggling to pull her feet to her mouth- she makes little grunting noises the whole time.

Lyla is making a million new noises. Music to our ears. She has two teeth on the bottom. She goes to bed at 7:30pm- we are still swaddling her and it works perfect. She sleeps through the night with no problems and wakes up at about 6:00am every morning. She is on a pretty repetitive schedule these days. She takes a morning and afternoon nap and will usually lay down after just a few snuggles and then fall asleep. Lyla LOVES to be on the move. She doesn't like to sit at all. She would rather walk and look around- she loves to just watch. She is pretty observant to movement and sounds. Her little head never seems to stop moving to see what is happening.

We are going to be starting her on solid foods pretty soon. We will try the rice cereal first. We have decided to make all of our baby food. Because the farmers' market is starting next weekend it just makes sense to make our food- we will have a weekly supply of organic food. I am also really excited to see what options there are. We have gotten a few books with recipes to try so that will begin soon.

Changes

Lyla is 4 months and 3 weeks old. She currently weighs 13lbs 11oz and she is changing all the time. She has two teeth coming in on the bottom. She is trying with all that she has to roll over but she just doesn't know what to do with her arms. It is so hard to not help her. We assist every now and again so that she knows what it feels like to roll but we really want her to get it on her own. In time. She is considering laughing more and more but no real belly laughs. She is playing a little more all the time. She loves looking in the mirror, songs, a red silk scarf that we drop and let fall on her belly and her Sophie giraffe. It is astonishing to watch her change and grow.

Outside

Lyla loves being outside. I think she would spend every minute out there is we let her. This makes me pretty excited since summer is on the way.

No tv for this little girl, she would much rather watch birds and squirrels with her Charlie Muppets brother.

Spring has sprung

The weather has started to get really nice these days and we figured Lyla needed to dress for the season one afternoon. I think we had far more fun than she did.

Matt and I have been working on our garden and needed Lyla to hang out while we worked. We pulled out all the stops. We brought her little farm chair out along with an assortment of toys. She did the best she could but it took a little time and patience to make the garden happen.

We are pretty excited to get seeds in the ground.

We are finally starting to be funny

So Matt and I spend a good portion of time singing and talking and playing with Lyla. She gives us a smile and plenty of arm waves and feet kicking to take flight, but never a real laugh... until last night! Matt was quacking like a duck and that was mildly funny to her. I say mildly because it wasn't a full belly laugh but it was more than her Ernie(as in Berts friend)laugh. It thrilled us to no end. If that isn't motivation to get a few more giggles, I don't know what is. To top it all off she found her feet today too. She has finally started grabbing them while she is laying on her changing table. Her changes happen in little clusters. It is amazing to see. Her smile is getting brighter and her excitement over sounds and toys is getting greater. She could watch the dogs all day long if given the chance. She reached out for Alice two days ago- pretty cute I think.
